The Internet is indeed one of the hugest sources of information you can ever find. This is because there are billions and billions of contributors for each of the billions and billions of websites you can find on the net. This is precisely why a lot of computer users turn to the Internet when they are in search of information. As advantageous as the Internet as a research tool may be, it also has its share of disadvantages. By just being connected to the Internet, you actually become prone to infiltration by hackers all over the world. These hackers can infiltrate your system, grab your files that they can use for their own purpose, and even monitor your activity on the net. Thus, this is the main reason why it is important to clear your traces in the Internet. There are a number of tips that you can diligently follow to do this. The first is to delete your cookies. Cookies are actually files that collect information about the websites that you visit. This is done so that the next time you visit that website, browsing would actually become faster. Just what are these pieces of information that cookies gather? These can include your user IDs, your user passwords, and just about any piece of information that you input when you visit the site. This is somewhat an advantage, right? Because the next time you drop by the site, you no longer have to type your user ID and password all over again. However, because these are collected, hackers can retrieve your user IDs and passwords and use these to their hearts’ content. Thus, it would be so much better to just delete your cookies every time you log off the web. The second tip is to delete your temporary Internet files. Just like cookies, temporary Internet files are also stored on your hard drive every time you visit particular websites. When you visit the sites again, browsing would become faster. Because the temporary Internet files are stored on your hard drive, your browser would not have to retrieve the website information from the Internet itself. Your browser would just have to check your temporary Internet files folder and retrieve the site from there. Speed is advantageous here; however, the major downside is that spyware applications can make use of these temporary files to monitor your web activities. The safer option is to delete these files from your system as well. Surfing history should also be deleted. This is actually a record of the websites that you visit every time you go online. Keeping such a record can still make browsing sites faster, but this still puts you at risk. When a record of the websites you visit is kept, hackers will have hints and whatnots on what you do each time you visit a particular website. After putting two and two together, they just might figure out what your business is every time you visit a website or two. Thus, you should not keep a record of your surfing history at all. These are just some of the ways on how to clear your traces in the Internet. The Internet is indeed a very advantageous tool to have. However, you cannot disregard the fact that there are hackers all over the web. Thus, you should also employ the necessary measures for your own security. Other articles:
