While the Internet has greatly changed how people live, it has also put to danger the lives of many unsuspecting people who became victims of information theft. Not surprisingly, more and more people have looked for computer security tips to protect the important files that they keep in their computer database. The term "computer security" is often used in technical discussions on information safety. However, not all people know exactly what this term means. Computer security refers to the process of preventing or denying access and detecting authorized use of one's computer. This includes measures to hinder unauthorized users or intruders from having access to nay part of the computer system. Detecting these is equally important as stopping unauthorized access to make a computer system owner aware of the fact that somebody had been attempting to get into his system and what this intruder would have eventually accessed had he or she been successful. The process of computer security is centered on the importance of preserving the confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of computer networks. Confidentiality basically means that information should not be accessed by unauthorized users. Authenticity, meanwhile, means that the user who is given access to a computer system is really the person who he or she cl aims to be. Lastly, integrity means that the information contained in the system are protected against any changes that are unauthorized. Because of the increasing popularity of the Internet, more and more people are relying on this technology for almost everything from shopping to banking to making investments. Communicating through electronic means like emails and chat programs are also very popular nowadays. Without a reliable computer security system installed, intruders or hackers could easily get ahold of sensitive and important information like bank and credit card numbers, social security numbers and even have access to information exchanged through chats and emails. Intruders, or hackers, or attackers, as they are sometimes called, do not necessarily target a particular person to be its victim. Usually, they just settle for whatever computer system they can access so that they can launch an attack against another computer system. Usually, these attacks are targeted to important computer systems like financial and government computer systems. Home computers are popular targets of intruders because these computers are less secure and are usually very easy to hack. They become more vulnerable with the existence of high-speed and 24/7 Internet connections. Home computers are usually broken into through emails that contain a virus that will be activated once the email has been opened. This creates an opening from which intruders gain access to computer system. Intruders also install new programs and backdoors or points of entry so that they will be able to continue using your computer. Installing a computer security system is not something trivial. There are various security solutions that can be considered and each of them needs to be seriously evaluated. It may also take time to learn and accurately understand the technical aspects of having one's home computer system secured. Reading computer security tips would greatly help. Having access to these tips should not be a problem as there are various websites on this particular subject. Other articles:
